With all the diverse clubs at the University of Montevallo, it is no surprise the Sherlock Holmes Literary Society exists.

The Society will read a story, often called an adventure, about the dynamic duo of Sherlock Holmes and Watson, meeting later on to discuss what happened.

Club meetings are not just about discussions. President Carly Lockhart explained the club has been known to act out scenes of importance.

“Sometimes we’ll head outside and act out the scenes. Last semester we did a scene shooting harpoons at bales of hay.” Lockhart explained.

Kel Laeger is the club’s adviser and often does extra research on the story they focus on from meeting to meeting.

He looks up the streets named in the stories on Google earth, just to see how much has changed from then to now.

He also looks up descriptions of the clothes, saying this research gives a “new depth” to the story.

The next meeting the society has will be held Nov. 2 at 4 p.m.
