Upperclassmen have experienced many different food venues at the location next to Moe’s in Farmer Hall. Included in these past venues are sushi, hummus, and noodle bowls. This year’s newest option has everyone’s favorite: milkshakes.

The Sweet Shoppe opened in August 2017 when the school year started and things are looking good. Special items on the menu include hand scooped ice cream cones, milkshakes, and ice cream sundaes.

Although everyone loves dessert, students are still asking if this venue is going to last longer than a year unlike the others before.

The retail manager for Chartwells, the food service vendor on campus, Mike Swinehart, says the others didn’t last over a year due to declining sales. He is confident that this new venue can make it past the one year mark especially since it was created to fill a void.

Over the summer, everyone’s favorite restaurant, Eclipse, closed. Though students are  still coping through that heartbreak, the university decided to respond by providing an alternative to the sweet offered at the old restaurant. Thus the Sweet Shoppe was born.

Since the opening, the Sweet Shoppe has been successful and Swinehart, along with the other staff members, are encouraged by the sales.
