Halloween night, Montevallo’s women’s volleyball team hosted a tailgate at the Student Activity Center.

At the tailgate students were provided with food, music, and fun activities while waiting for the volleyball game to start. Students even got to participate in a costume contest for a chance to win a few prizes.

Before the game started, booths were set up by the residence and housing association as well as the counseling services.

The counseling services booth had a mask making station for the “you don’t have to mask it” event. It’s purpose was to encourage participants that mental health isn’t something you have to hide and to inform everyone of the stigma created on mental health.

Jody Lackey, a resident assistant, or RA, on campus planned the residence and housing association booth. Her idea allowed students and faculty to pie  RAs in the face with whip cream.  All donations were given to the campus food pantries.

Campus food pantries provides students in need  with food, funds, or even toiletries throughout the school year.

Around 5:30 the volleyball game started. The Falcons won in a 3-2 victory against in state rival, University of West Alabama.

During the game, judges decided on the winners of the costume contest. There were seven finalists but only three placed winners.

The first place winner, Kayla Rollins, was dressed up as the “Spirit of the Tardis” from the “Doctor Who” television show. She won $60 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The event overall was a hit. Many students came to cheer on the falcons while also enjoying their Halloween night.
