On November 14th, Phi Mu held it’s third annual Corn Hole Carnival event. This year the event was moved from Myrick Hall to the Intramural Fields. With the increase of some more space, came the decrease in temperature.

The weather was so cold, that the members of Phi Mu were concerned the tour out would not be as high as previous years. After the event started, it was clear they were wrong.

The price to get into the event was $4 and all proceeds went directly to Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, which is Phi Mu’s philanthropy. The money went specifically the local hospital in Birmingham.

The main event of the carnival was the double elimination Corn Hole Tournament. Teams of two from around the community competed against one another. While the tournament was taking place those not playing had the opportunity to participate in other activities.

Since the weather was so cold, hot chocolate and apple cider were offered along with baked goods all for only $1. With the low temperature and low prices everyone soon had a cup of warm cocoa in their hands.

At the back of the event, backyard games were set up to play. Among the games were jumbo Jenga, jumbo Scrabble, Twister, jumbo checkers, and more. While some got the chance to play, others watched while bundled up in jackets and blankets.

And what’s a carnival without a little face painting? Some of Phi Mu’s talented women were accepting donations to paint the faces of everyone that showed up.

During the entire night, one of Phi Mu’s own members, Charity Bowden, who actually competed on the Voice played guitar and sang for the crowds. Along with singing her classic country favorites, she showed us another one of her special talents that night: yodeling.

Charity had most everyone’s eyes on her and she got the crowd going. Everyone was cheering her on as she yodeled faster than they could even clap.

Throughout the night, the organization gave away numerous raffle prizes. There were gift cards to LJ’s Retail Therapy, Honey Baked Ham, Chick-fil-a, movie passes, free popsicle certificates and much more.

The ultimate prize for winning the tournament was a one-night stay in the Ross Bridge Hotel and Spa in Birmingham. The winners, Brayson Chase Payne and Clayton Halbert, we excited to win. They came out to support CMNH and have good time, winning was just the icing on the cake for these two.

Though the night was pretty cold, the ladies of Phi Mu were so excited to see everyone’s participation and to count almost $1,000 that was soon donated to CMNH.
