The South is no stranger to pollen each Spring. It affects more than 50 million Americans each year.

The University of Montevallo is well known for it’s beautiful campus full of flowers, trees and greenery. Due to the nature of our campus pollen attacks in full force each spring semester.

This can cause students to develop allergies or get even more severe allergies.

Montevallo’s on campus registered nurse, Shannon Smith, has seen many students in recent months for respiratory viruses which can be camouflaged as allergies if persistent enough.

Smith shares that the best way to cope with allergies is to get over the counter antihistamines like Claritin, Allegra, or Zyrtec. The long lasting medications work better with Flonase for extreme cases.

Health Services is available for all undergraduate students. The price is included in tuition so it is “free of charge” each visit. It provides medical aid for minor illnesses and injuries.

Smith encourages students to make an appointment with Health Services before paying a co-pay at the doctor’s office to save money.

Making an appointment is easy. You can drop by the location, which is in the East Wing of Main Hall, or call in. Their number is (205) 665-6275. They are open Monday – Friday   8 – 5.
