For the past four years, every Thursday local churches have volunteered their time to provide free meals for University of Montevallo students.
The program is called Open Table and students are encouraged to come and enjoy a warm meal with no strings attached.
“We don’t preach,” Don Blakely, a volunteer from Montevallo Presbyterian Church, explained. “There’s no lessons, no videos you have to watch. There’s no preconceived religion based activities. It’s just meet, eat and greet, that’s it. Just a good hot meal.”
The volunteers prepare enough food to feed about fifty students each week from 11:30 to 1:00 at Forbes House behind Napier Hall.
