With all new beginnings means there must be an end. For the lady Falcon’s soccer team, the seniors were able to cap off their last home game with a sentimental ceremony to celebrate the hard work they’ve put into the program.
This past Sunday October 21st the UM Women’s Soccer team featured seniors Sabrina Amador, Simone Nelson, Alex Zegarra, and Tayler Kukes on their annual Senior Day.
A few years ago the seniors stepped on campus wide eyed, determined, and ready to prove something. Four years later, as their season comes to a close the seniors have left their mark on the program.
One year you’re a freshman looking forward to the next three years ahead, and in the blink of an eye you’re a senior playing your last home game wondering, “Where did all the time go.”
Senior Alex Zegarra said, “It still feels like I’m a freshman as if I have many more games to come, but this is one of my last games, it’s very nostalgic and it hasn’t hit me yet.”
Teammates, coaches, and family members celebrated seniors with a day full of locker decorations, recognitions, and gifts.
Later that afternoon, upperclassmen and lowerclassmen fought side by side on the field for a 2-0 win over Delta State. The Falcons secured their spot in the Gulf South Conference playoffs upcoming next Tuesday.
