On October 25th the Seniors in the communication studies capstone course hosted their eighth annual COMS Day.
COMS Day is an event that aims to celebrate the communication studies program at the University of Montevallo and highlight the varsatility of a communications degree.
The theme this year was “Choose Your Own Adventure” and students had the opportunity to enjoy several interactive events like raffles and mixers as well as guest speakers.
Student Mika Thorton believes that the keynote/guest speaker portion of the event is the most beneficial to students.
“Both of these speakers are COMS Alumni from the University of Montevallo and its really cool for students to get to come be a part of COMS Day and see what that looks like for people that have already moved on from the department and have created a future for themselves and chosen their own adventures and now they are living out their adventures,” said Thorton.
There was also a Q&A portion of the event where students got to ask guest speaker Chasidy Atchison for advice on their path in communication.
“93% of communication is nonverbal. Now that is a stat that I have heard many times throughout my career and it just rings true,” said Atchison.
COMS Day was well received by students and faculty and they are looking forward to doing it all again next year.
