Abortion. The Ten Commandments. The election of state legislators.
On Tuesday Alabama voters considered adding four constitutional amendments to the state’s heavily amended 1901 Constitution, dealing with these issues. The Alabama Constitution has been amended 928 times on matters both large and small
The United States mid-term elections took place on November 6th, 2018. Many residents and students of Montevallo exercised their civil rights at the University Student Retreat.
A group of students from the Feminist Majority Foundation gathered to voice their concerns about amendment two, which would make all abortions illegal, even in the cases involving rape or complicated pregnancies.
Some voters were openly vocal about their political outlooks including University of Montevallo sophomore Deidre Darby “Some of the Amendments this election because they violate morality in my opinion”.
However, because of the nature of this election, some voters preferred not to voice their opinions when asked.
Votes at this location in the end expressed that although opinions may defer, any vote is better than no vote. “Vote as you please, but please vote.” quoted Jamie Hass, Feminist Majority Foundation Campus Representative. The polls where open for 12 hours on November 6th from 7AM to 7PM. You can find information on elections results here.
