Following the 2017 jail break, things are looking up at the Walker County jail. Sherif Smith credits the jail break to unkempt conditions in the jail prior to him taking the office in December of 2018.

Since then, Smith has taken care to see that routine checks of facilities are in place. He says that even some inmates have decided to volunteer their time to make the facility  a better place to live.
