Following the 2017 jail break, things are looking up at the Walker County jail. Sherif Smith credits the jail break to unkempt conditions in the jail prior to him taking the office in December of 2018.
Since then, Smith has taken care to see that routine checks of facilities are in place. He says that even some inmates have decided to volunteer their time to make the facility a better place to live.
The County commissioner has awarded the jail $900,000 to help with repairs. The money will be distributed in
over the next few weeks.
Smith says that he plans to use some of the funds to purchase additional locks and security cameras.
