Julia Gigis, a student at the University of Montevallo, brought it upon herself to establish Her Campus- a national online magazine- as an official organization of the University. The sophomore reached out to corporate after seeing the lack of student publications that wrote evergreen stories and made it her goal to create a chapter for the publication at the university.
“I was really looking for a publication that wasn’t necessarily like traditional reporting but more kind of like those evergreen stories that are about pop culture, beauty and fashion,” said Gigis “ I couldn’t find that at Montevallo so I wanted to create that opportunity for myself and other students like me.”
The idea of Her Campus came to her after dreaming of doing an internship in New
York City but like many other students she is too far away. Instead she decided that if she can’t have her dream in New York City she would bring it to Montevallo and give leadership opportunities for students on campus.
Although Her Campus predominantly serves college women, Gigis would like for students to share their personal college experience, content that uplifts women,or content that is unique to the writer. She states Her Campus goal is to “give opportunity to college students that are looking to hone their craft and dive into their passions.”
