The Montevallo swim team is diving in and starting their season off this Saturday, October 5. The team is hosting an Intersquad meet at the Student Activity Center at 9 am.

The team is split up into two teams, purple and gold, and will compete against each other. There will be “refs here to make sure it is a sanctioned meet,” says Assitant Coach Hannah Wakeley, “so their times will count.”

Head Coach Aaron Mahaney split the team up and is letting the teams decide how they want to stack it for the meet. The team “decided as a whole what events [they’re] swimming,” says Gemma Knauf, a freshman. Knauf will be swimming on the gold team Saturday.

The inaugural team is led by coaches Aaron Mahaney and Hannah Wakeley. This will be the first meet for the college level team and for many of the swimmers on the team. 30 of the 32 team members are freshmen.

The team’s first meet will be at the end of October at Sewanee in Tennessee. The team will host their first home meet at the Student Activity Center on November 8th against Birmingham-Southern College.
