UPC celebrated the spooky season with pumpkin painting on Oct. 17 in the student retreat building.

“So we decided to do pumpkin painting because it’s an event that we’ve done in the past that was very popular. We also did succulent plant pot painting back in September, so we thought it’d be really fun and cute to carry it over into a Halloween theme,” shared Celia Venable, the event coordinator.

Students shared that having a chance to come together and do something artistic was just what the needed to boost themselves through the rest of the semester.

“I had a good time, I saw this on the Montevallo Instagram and I was like ‘that looks fun.’ There are a lot of people here, so it had a good turn out. I had fun. I have paint on my hands and that’s how you know it’s a good time,” said Bell Jackson.

As paint was spilled and pumpkins were painted, attendees could be heard laughing and talking amongst their fellow students.

“It’s fun, you know, to get to paint pumpkins with your friends and make jokes. It’s just a cute little thing,” expressed Gabrielle Marshall.

UPC coodinator, Venable, shared that she believes the events the club puts on are crucial to keeping students happy and social.

“I think they’re really important just because it’s a nice relaxation tool,” said Venable. “It gets the campus to come together and people who may not hang out quite as much outside are sitting together at tables and painting and talking.”

From UPC, students can look forward to a haunted house on Oct 28 and an upcoming casino themed and midnight breakfast closer to finals.
