Lots of changes have happened in Montevallo in the last few years, especially with the main street revitalization program, but there’s a new area of town where businesses are popping up.

The community has coined the new developments on Valley Street as the Village on Valley.

Kimble’s Boutique was one of the first businesses in this area, opening in April 2018. The boutique offers clothing for men and women as well as jewelry and handbags. There are also opportunities for local vendors to rent booth space and sell their product or service. Currently Ms. Victoria is set up with a hair salon.

Emma Gray and FotoWerks recently moved off Main Street to this area and say business is doing great. Milestone Academy, a daycare, is also located in the strip.

C’s Cakes and Coffee set up shop on Valley Street in early 2019. The coffee house offers sandwiches and coffee with options to sit inside or on the picnic tables in front. C’s gives a 20% discount to all UM students. They also hold events and contests throughout the year to bring more of the community to the district.

The Nutrition Spot is the last shop to open on Valley Street. They opened this summer and offer a wide variety of meal replacement shakes. Montevallo is just one of many locations in the Birmingham Area.

Most recently, construction on a sitting area was completed. The area now offers a benches under the lights, around a large directional art work piece. This area is great to grab a bite from C’s or the Nutrition Spot and hang out with friends or family.

Shop owners in the Village on Valley pride themselves on their close knit community. “We work very well hand in hand to send each other business. What we don’t have we can send you the other direction,” said Ms. Victoria at Kimble’s Boutique.

There are still a few empty store fronts in the area, but developers are working to renovate the building and bring in new businesses.

Construction is still in progress for Slice, a stone pizza and brew house, and is set to open in December or January.
