This season’s trends include items ranging from crop tops to a faux fur jackets. While this may seem scary to try to keep up with everyone, it’s not.

An outfit is all about that one item that makes a statement, whether it’s the cheetah print shoes or the corduroy skirt. Everything else is a basic piece. Basic pieces or designed to help pull an outfit together and be interchanged and used differently.

Basic pieces such as a plain tee or a pair of jeans can help draw the attention to that one item you really want to show off. Basic pieces can be interchanged between outfits, so if you only have a few of those statement items, different outfits can be created.

Many stores often have inexpensive basic pieces that are great quality and often times will have really great sales.

Shop the clearance section always especially when stores are in the middle of changing their displays over for the next season. Often times you can find the same things that have been sold full price for the past couple of months for a fraction of the original price.

Stay on budget when it comes to shopping the latest trends. It’s hard to keep up with everyone during the age of social media. Use these techniques to shop the latest trends and not scramble around to pay your bills.

  • Make sure to do your research before you go shopping. See what kind of deals you can find.
  • Go in with a set budget and preferably cash, so you can see how much you’re spending.
  • Don’t be fooled by the sale prices. Retailers are known to mark things up right before they put a sale sign on it.
  • Go to the local thrift store. Trends from the past generations are being recycled by the current generation. If you know where to look, you can always find a cool piece that ties your outfit together.
  • Shop out of season. Buy your swimsuit in the winter and that cute jacket that will tie your entire outfit together in the middle of July.

Occasionally it’s okay to splurge, as Tom and Donna say “Treat Yo’ Self”. Don’t over splurge keep it to one or two items every couple of  months.

There is also not a need to spend full price on items, you can always find something great in the thrift store. It can be a little hit or miss sometimes, but you just have to be persistent.

Thrift stores can be a little overwhelming sometimes, the best thing to do is go in without any expectations. Majority of the time you will be able to find that next great piece to add to your wardrobe.
