The Montevallo chapter of Alpha Delta Pi hosts events on campus to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama. This sorority is able to see first-hand what their hard work and charitable contributions can do.
Multiple times throughout the semester Alpha Delta Pi is able to visit the RMHCA house in downtown Birmingham and cook meals for the families staying there.
Zelma Mae Cable is a senior at the university and a member of Alpha Delta Pi.
For her this is a way of giving back to the community, she says, RMHCA is “so important, so vital to the community of Alabama in general and for families facing such hardships as having a child sick in the hospital it is absolutely vital they get the care and attention they need so that their child can in turn receive the support they need to get better.”
The sorority was able to visit the house three times this semester. The last time they visited was November 17 and the young women in the sorority made brunch for the families.
The sorority hosts a philanthropy event each semester on campus. In the fall they host Run for Ronald which is an obstacle course race.
In the Spring, they host a music themed philanthropy. In the past they have done ADPidol, but last year they changed the theme to Battle of the Bands and used classroom instruments.
The sorority also collects pop tabs year round to give to the house in Birmingham. Ronald McDonald House Charities has a deal with Brother’s Recycling Company who melts them down and gives RMHC the going rate of aluminum.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama is located in downtown Birmingham across from Children’s of Alabama.
