Covid-19 has postponed many events for the athletics department. However, that has not stopped these cheer athletes from working hard and staying safe to continue next season.

There are guidelines implemented to make sure athletes are staying safe and socially distanced, as well as being mindful of their safety and others.

“In practice everything is going pretty smooth, as we try our best to keep everybody six feet apart, keeping their items six feet apart, and just reminding them to keep their masks up at all times,” says Spirit coordinator and cheerleading Coach Melissa Stano.

Though these athletes are following protocol with ease there are some difficult circumstances. Coach Stano says “Its really tough because we’re practicing in a facility that doesn’t have air conditioning, but we still have to do our part to stay healthy while we’re at practice.”

Despite the circumstances Coach Stano and her team believes positivity, and hope will keep their spirits lifted and drive going.

The University of Montevallo’s cheerleading team hopes to travel in January to UCA UDA Nationals in Orlando, Florida and compete.
