The University of Montevallo’s Carmichael Library has received a nearly $50,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to help make their services available to more students.

Project Director Michael Price says he believes the library’s response to COVID-19 was a big part of them receiving the grant.

“I think what we laid out was a plan for dealing with the pandemic and I think that they were able to see that this was a responsible way to use the money” he continued.

Carmichael Library plans to use the money for new technology that will become available to students, faculty and staff.

Price said that depending on the budget, the library will purchase about 35 i-Pads and the same number of updated Chromebooks as well as portable chargers that have already been purchased and 12 WiFi hotspots.

Carmichael Library was one of 68 institutions that were selected for this grant from more than 1,700 applicants.
