The Soul Spot Wings is opening a second location next to the CVS in Montevallo.

Eboni Williams, co-owner of The Soul Spot Wings, says customers have been asking for a Montevallo location since they opened in Calera two and a half years ago.

“We get a lot of Montevallo customers, and from probably the first six months we were open they were saying, ‘Well, y’all need to come to Montevallo,’” she said.

According to co-owner Eugene Williams, the Montevallo community played a big role in their choice to expand to Montevallo.

“I love the support that the community gives… People come to the drive-thru window at Calera and talk to me all day long about Montevallo,” he said.

Eboni also believes Montevallo residents need more fresh food options.

“With it being a college town, honestly there’s just not a lot of options, especially fresh food,” she said.

Eboni and Eugene say the Montevallo community has been welcoming to them throughout the process, and they hope to return the welcome when The Soul Spot Montevallo opens.

“It’s a warm feeling, it really is, to see the community of Montevallo embrace us,” said Eugene. “And I want them to feel like when they come to this restaurant, they’re at home. I want to make sure everybody is welcomed with open arms.”

The Williamses expected to open their Montevallo location in May, but COVID-19 has caused delays.

The pandemic halted progress on the new location as contractors became harder to hire. Work in Montevallo did not start again until August.

Their Calera location has also been affected by the pandemic.

“When COVID-19 hit, we had to close the lobby; the lobby is still closed right now. We are only doing call-in and online orders,” said Eboni.

The Williamses now hope to open The Soul Spot Montevallo sometime in December.

They plan to accept Flex points from University of Montevallo students, and Eboni hopes to host events like game nights to draw the younger crowd.

“We’re trying to make it a completely different feel from Calera because there are a lot of younger people here,” she said.
