In-person classes began Monday, Jan. 25 for University of Montevallo students, after remote learning for the first two weeks of the semester.

To ensure student safety during the continued spread of coronavirus, the University of Montevallo has implemented a number of policies with students’ health and safety in mind.

All students have been given the option of in-person or virtual classes, meaning any student that feels unsafe on campus has the ability to complete the entire semester remotely.

Additionally, all students planning to attend in-person classes were required to submit a negative COVID-19 test prior to the beginning of the school year. The University will continue random sentinel COVID-19 testing throughout the semester.

Students are required to wear a mask at all times while on campus, while following CDC recommended safety guidelines for social distancing.

The University is emphasizing the protection of student’s mental health, as well as their physical health. Last semester, the university’s student counseling services received a record number of students seeking help. Emails and social posts from campus administration to students, faculty and staff also encouraged the use of campus resources during this time.

As students begin in-person classes this week, sentinel testing resumes as well. Students can keep up-to-date with university announcements through their student email, as well as on the COVID-19 page on UM’s website.
