St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Plowman Street is home to The Little Food Pantry. The small service project is meant to keep community spirits up and stomachs full.

The food pantry has been around for a few years, but community members say it has been an immense help during the pandemic. Feeding America estimates in 2020, there were over 50 million Americans who were food insecure, including 17 million children. That’s up 15.8% since 2018.

At any given time, you can stop by and find a wide range of items, including canned goods, bread, and more.

Citizens of Montevallo come together to keep it well stocked. Community members often work together, posting on Facebook groups like “Sharing Montevallo” or the “Montevallo Little Free Pantry” to determine the supply needs.

In addition to the food pantry, there is a stand alone library where people can swap out books.

It it called the “Little Free Library,” and people are encouraged to take a book that interests them and donate any used books.

In addition to the food pantry sponsored by St. Andrew’s, Montevallo Presbyterian also sponsors a food pantry. This pantry is located at the corner of Vine and Valley Streets.
