The University of Montevallo has put many COVID-19 precautions in place for students and faculty to remain safe, which includes social distancing, wearing a mask, and keeping hand sanitizer available.

Right out of quarantine the players are back on the court, despite setbacks they are determined to keep everyone healthy even at the expense of a crowd. Senior basketball player Xavier Malcom says, “We have been taking COVID very seriously we wear our masks to class, we have to wear our masks at practice, and we also COVID test every other day.”

As long as players are safe and following guidelines they are able to focus on the game but what about when the crowd participation is low?

Head Men’s basketball coach Danny Young says, “COVID always affects when the crowds are smaller especially the energy level in the arena when we’re playing if a good play happens or a bad play happens or someone is yelling at the officials we got many things going on out there so there’s definitely an affect on the home team more than anything. “

Overall, this year has been very rough for both the coaches and basketball players. They have now returned to the court and plans to stay, with the remainder of a successful season.

Recently they have implemented some new precautionary measures for the players. They continue to follow guidelines to keep everyone safe. For more information on the upcoming games and events here is the website
