Alabama is moving into the next phase of the COVID-19 vaccine distributions: phase 1B.
On February 8, group 1B became eligible for the vaccine. The group includes first responders, educators, and those 65 and older.
A faculty survey shows a majority of of UM staff want the vaccine but are having trouble finding appointments.
Shelby County has one of the lowest distribution rates in the state.
Montevallo professor Stephanie Dean was able to get her vaccine early though a vaccine lottery at a pharmacy in Montgomery.
“I was extremely foruntate”. Dean said she feels lucky to have gotten the vaccine and hopes it will become more available for others soon.
Dr. Sherry Ford, Department of Communications Chair, says she plans to get the vaccine and is looking around for an appointment. “I’ve been looking for an appointment at different places because Shelby County has had some shortage issues. So I’ve been looking around at other county health departments and the apartments are, looking right now late March-April.”
You can schedule an appointment by visiting Alabama Public Health’s COVID-19 Vaccination Portal.
