The Mass Communication Program hosted Exploring Mass Communication Day on Friday, Oct. 29 at Strong Hall.

High school students from around the state attended the event and got hands-on experience with the program’s state-of-the-art broadcast and production equipment.

High school student and attendee Nicole Brown enjoyed the event and said getting an up-close look at the equipment was exciting.

“It’s very interesting to see, like, how a news broadcast works behind the scenes and then to see all the high-tech– the teleprompter and everything,” said Brown.

Students also attended workshops throughout the day that introduced them to various skills used in the field as well as things like podcasting and e-sports.

The department hopes the event will serve in showing students the many career options a degree in mass communication can provide, and perhaps even help with recruiting more students into the program.
