Story By: Adriana Rangel
Students in need can make an appointment with counseling services to access UM’s food pantry. The food pantry is available to all UM students.
The pantry offers food such as soups, pasta, sauces, mac and cheese, and chicken. They also provide toiletry items such as toothbrushes, soaps, hygiene items and hair care. They even offer school supplies such as paper, pens, calculators and flash drives.
Students can make an appointment by emailing or calling counseling services. Then they will have to fill out a quick questionnaire that asses the student’s needs. It also asks for food allergies and preferences. Students will never be asked to verify or validate their need.
The pantry is entirely run off donations. People looking to make a donation can check the counseling service page to find a list of items they accept. Items can be dropped off at the front desk at Puryear House.
Students should not feel ashamed to reach out for help and are encouraged to do so if they need it.
To book an appointment, you can send an email to counseling@montevallo.edu or call at (205)665-6245.
