The Montevallo Christmas parade presented by the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce on Main Street was held on December 2, 2021. The Chamber of Commerce has hosted this parade for more than 25 years.
Before the parade, residents and attendees could enjoy the holiday decorations, window paintings, and hot chocolate from Montevallo First Baptist Church. In addition, a series of floats were featured in the parade. Those who participated could win a trophy for Best Overall, Most Creative, Most Christmas Spirit, and Best Theme.
There was a brief tree lighting ceremony promptly at 5:30 p.m.

Amongst the floats were a few holiday favorites, such as the Grinch, a Nativity scene, and Santa Claus. In addition, several Shelby County sponsors participated.
These sponsors include but are not limited to Lucky’s Foodland, Trustmark Bank, Sen. April Weaver, and the University of Montevallo. Other parade participants include Montevallo High School, American Village, Montevallo Fire Department, and 102.5 the Bull.
Among the residents, many were excited to have a parade this year. Montevallo students Malachi Mcintosh and Selena Perez both like the idea of a parade in the city. “It’s very exciting. I’ve been living here my whole life since I was 5 years old. Coming down here and being a little older, going to the college-it’s a different experience. It’s nice, I like it,” says Perez.
“This is my first time being here. I’ve never been to the Montevallo parade. I heard it was fire, so I thought I’d give it a try. It’s giving Hallmark vibes, you know, small town, big personality. I love it!” says Mcintosh.

The parade is said to be one of the largest events in the city. There is participation from all around, including from the university.
The Christmas parade is held every year. To participate, you must complete an application. You can email it to montevallochamber@gmail.com or mail to P.O. Box 270, Montevallo, AL 35115.
For next year’s parade, Montevallo student Semiya Bailey says she hopes to see more university students participating and a much larger turnout from the town.
