The University of Montevallo hosted its annual Mr. and Ms. Montevallo election. Interested students could sign up to be a candidate, or they could be nominated. Voting for candidates took place in the Fall 2021 semester.

Montevallo SGA announced the six finalists for both sides on Instagram back in September. The 2021-2022 SGA President, Anakate Andrasko, says, “Mr. and Ms. Montevallo really embodies what a student should be here at the university, and they’ve really gone above and beyond what they are here to do.”

Jamiya Williams is one of the finalists for Ms. Montevallo. She’s a senior Psychology major with a minor in communication studies. Outside of classes, Williams is involved in College Night on the Gold Side,

Since her first year, Williams has been involved in College Night and has continued to participate over the years. After finding out she was a finalist, Jamiya was excited and ecstatic. “I didn’t expect to be one of the final three. There were so many other great candidates, and I’m happy to be moving on to the final election,” Williams says.

Jamiya plastered flyers around campus and passed out buttons to students to campaign for herself.

Voting for the final election opened on January 31st and closed on February 2nd at 3pm. Students voted using FalconLink, and the winners will be announced on February 18th during College Night.
