The people of Montevallo are no strangers to the Tinglewood Festival at Orr Park. This year marked the fifth annual festival. Held in recognition of Tim Tinglewood, who’s wood-carving work can be found around the park.

The festival is run and thrown by the city of Montevallo with many sponsors, volunteers, live music and artists.

There is fun for the whole family with crafts from various artists, a car show and a bouncy house for kids.

And if anyone gets hungry there are plenty of food trucks around.

Deputy Barney Fife is present incase there is any trouble with his bullet all shined and ready to go.

A wood-carving competition is also held for everyone to watch. Here woodcarvers can put their skills to the test using chainsaws and more to complete their carvings.

Tim Tinglewood started carving when he was eight years old and hasn’t stopped since. He has done 60 pieces in Orr park alone, though 8 have been destroyed by weather.

“I saw these trees down here in the park and I thought wow that’s some big pieces of wood not being used. So, I started carving them. I did six before I got caught,” said Tinglewood.

Luckily they liked his carvings and told Tim that he could keep doing it if he wanted to.

Tim thinks he must have been a woodcarver in a previous life.
