It was Halloween this past weekend and here at the University of Montevallo the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity took the opportunity to participate in the holiday by hosting their annual Haunted House philanthropy to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

On Friday night, October 28, AKL invited students from all across campus to come to the student retreat center and participate in the frightening fun. Students paid $5 at the door and with around 200 people in attendance, they raised over $400.

Once inside, students began walking through a maze of scary decor and were greeted throughout by members of AKL dressed in various scary costumes, such as clowns, zombies and even famous characters like Jig Saw.

The Haunted House seemed to be a fan favorite, says UM student, CeCe Brewer. “I love fall time and Halloween and this philanthropy is unlike all of the others so it is very exciting.”

The members of AKL spent all day Friday preparing for the event. From setting up the student retreat center, to doing their makeup and getting in their costumes, a lot of hard work went into this event.

“I love Haunted Houses so I was really excited to come out to this event. It was really impressive to see how scary they were able to make it, while also raising money for a good cause,” says UM student, Katherine Myrick.

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, “Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas and other organs.”

The money raised through the Haunted House will be donated to the Alabama chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation which is located in Birmingham, Al.
