The annual Montevallo Choral Christmas began the holiday season on Nov. 29 with a performance at American Village’s Colonial Chapel.

The University of Montevallo Concert Choir and Chorus practiced since October for the event, and the members felt confident in the music they prepared.

“It’s an honor to be here and be a part of this choir,” said sophomore vocal performance major Taylor-Ann Tagovailoa.

The concert choir and chorus sang holiday favorites like “Carol of the Bells”, “O Come, All Ye Faithful”, and “The First Noel”.

Every year, they change the Christmas music for a fresh performance, but the hard work remains the same.

“We’ve been working really hard, and I think we sound beautiful,” said freshman vocal performance major Mia Wilson.

Guests who attended the event stood up and sang with the choir during “O Come, All Ye Faithful”. Student music major Luke Miliano came to the performance to support his friends in the choir, and he enjoyed how the audience was allowed to sing along.

“Most of the people in the South are definitely religious, so hearing some of those religious songs kind of bring back memories of when you were younger singing them in church yourself,” said Miliano.

Brian Perez, a freshman music major, may not have been present for the rehearsals, but he could overhear the concert choir and chorus practicing in the Lebaron Recital Hall.

“As an instrumentalist, I always find it very, like, appealing when I hear vocalists just sing,” said Perez. “I’m so used to just pushing some buttons and making a noise, and it just flows out of them so naturally.”
