The city of Montevallo hosted its annual Christmas parade this past Thursday at 6 p.m. The community gathered together to enjoy festive floats, live music and a Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
The parade is hosted every year by the city’s Chamber of Commerce. It featured over 50 floats including local businesses and churches, University of Montevallo student organizations and teams, community dance teams and Montevallo High School student clubs.
UM students and community members enjoyed the festivities to take a break from finals and get in the Christmas spirit.
“The end of the semester is so stressful and it is so hard to enjoy Christmas so I have really enjoyed coming out to see the Christmas festivities,” said UM student, Cole Broadhead.

Parade participants competed for a trophy in four categories: Best Overall, Most Creative, Most Christmas Spirit and Best Theme. In addition to the parade floats, there was also a window decorating competition.
“The Christmas parade is one of my favorite events that I look forward to every year. I love seeing everyone get really competitive with their floats and seeing all of the pretty decorated windows,” says Montevallo resident, Mary Garner Jones.
