The University of Montevallo’s newest sport has been invited to join Conference Carolinas for the upcoming wrestling season.
Conference Carolinas announced it would be the sole sponsor for the University of Montevallo men’s wrestling team, which is affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
The addition of UM brings the conference’s total to 14 teams for men’s wrestling, which are broken down into two divisions: East and West. Montevallo will be competing in the West division with colleges such as Newberry College, Limestone University and Coker College.
“Thank you to Commissioner Colvin and his staff for making this possible,” said UM Athletic Director Mark Richard. “We are beyond excited to begin our first season in 2023-24 and are happy to have a home in Conference Carolinas.”
At the end of the season, the top two teams from each division will face off in the inaugural Conference Carolinas Men’s Wrestling Championship in February 2024.
