Montevallo, Al- More housing is coming for students at Montevallo.
The University recently purchased an apartment complex just off campus for $1 million, and plans to purchase more soon.
College Park is located near the track and field/baseball complexes and contain 10 2-bedroom apartments. According to UM, the apartments are in “great condition.” The university plans to provide minor renovations and add furniture before promoting it to students at the end of February. The apartment will be first priority for juniors and seniors.
In an interview with the Shelby County Reporter, John Denson, Director of student and Resident life said the University should have no trouble filling the apartments when they open.
“As soon as rumor got out, we started getting contacted with people saying, ‘how can I get on the waiting list.’ I think it’s just an exciting, great opportunity for our students.”
The plan to purchase more apartments was mentioned at the SGA Town hall meeting this past November in response to a growing number of complaints from the student body about parking and quality of life for residents.
Of the 96 buildings on campus, nine currently serve as residence halls, and most are traditional dorms with community style bathrooms on the halls. New Hall is the most popular and the first to fill each year because of the apartment style living it offers. College Park will give students looking to opt for this style of living a second option.
Those currently living in College Park will finish their leases in May, and the apartments will be fully owned by the university. Students will be able to move into College Park in Fall 2023.
