Montevallo opens Grainger Community Counseling and Wellness Clinic that will now offer free mental health services.
The clinic is now open to anyone in the community who makes an appointment. Their hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The new clinic has four therapy rooms available. Two are general therapy rooms, one is for group therapy of people who have lost someone close to them, and the other is dedicated for play therapy.
Play therapy is a form of counseling for children to help them process their feelings and emotions using toys.
Telemental health counseling will also be offered and done through a virtual video platform.

These services are open to individuals ages 5 and older. Sessions last between 30 and 45 minutes. Childcare services during a patient’s session are also available if they need it.
The opening of this clinic will allow 207,000 adults who were not able to before have access to mental health care.
The clinic will also act as a training facility for graduate students who are in the final clinical phase of their education.
Associate professor of counseling at Montevallo, Dr. Latofia Parker said, “From a societal point of view, we want people to have healthy families and go to work. We know that mental health is a big challenge in our society so providing free services will help meet a need that will enhance our community, county and state.”
