The University of Montevallo Theatre Department will be presenting the play “Tartuffe”, March 9th-12th.

A Tartuffe is a scoundrel who is taken into the household of a wealthy man named Orgon. Under the guise of ministering to the family’s spiritual and moral needs, he almost destroys Orgon’s family. This original adaptation of Moliére’s classic comedy of manners and errors looks at the characters through the performance style lenses of commedia dell’arte and melodrama mixed with modern word play, physical comedy, and audience participation.

“Tartuffe” is almost indescribable. It’s a crazy spin off of a traditional show told in a new light that shows off the creative ideas the whole cast and crew have come up with to make this show one of a kind”.

“This is definitely not the typical show. This show is unique and holds its own.”

“I am ecstatic! This is my first production here at Montevallo and it has been one of my favorite theatre experiences so far. The cast is incredible and our stage management and production team are beyond amazing. They make this whole process possible. Opening night is gonna be so exciting for the whole cast and crew and I can’t wait for people to see it! I’m so glad I’ve gotten the opportunity to be apart of this cast.”

These are some comments from members of the theatre department!

The UM theatre department is active in professional organizations around the U.S. within their respective fields. Every production is always put together professionally. They work hard to prepare students to directly enter the profession if desired, as well as pursue a variety of career options.
