The Montevallo Esports team competed in their third tournament of the semester Tuesday at the Magic City Eplex. Esports teams from colleges all over the state showed up to compete in code crop, one of two major tournaments that will be held there this semester.
The eplex is not as big as other venues that the team competes at each year like Comic con, but it is a hot spot for tournaments and other Esports events.
The eplex also has access to virtual reality and escape rooms as well as next generation gaming consoles and PCs. The Montevallo Esports team however came to play Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Smash Bros Ultimate is a 2018 crossover fighting game published by Nintendo. It has a roster of 74 playable characters from popular game franchises like Mario, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Fire Emblem.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate has had a massive impact on the gaming community. All you have to do is ask local players to know how the game has brought people together and formed lifelong friendships.
“I would say that genuinely we have a very well rounded team that has so much fun, not just in a competitive sense that if you join, you’re gonna find someone and your going to have some type of enjoyment,” Says Anthony LaMana, one of the teams newest members.
Isaac Colewell, one of the team leaders says that while it is a great experience, people should be wary of how competitive the community is.
“I have to say that if you like making friends with a good sense of competition, definitely do so, but I would be wary. it’s pretty competitive and you can get some pretty fun things said to you,” Says Isaac.
The Montevallo Falcons are set to return to the eplex on April 28 to compete in Code Crimson, which will be one of the biggest tournaments of the year.
