Every year the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) hold a joint conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, and this year continues the streak of Montevallo students being in attendance.

Mass Communication professors Dr. Bruce Finklea and Dr. Stephanie Dean were joined by six students to experience panels and workshops while volunteering at the NABiQ stations throughout the conference.

“It’s great to be able to bring students to the BEA conference and NAB show,” Dr. Finklea said. “Dr. Dean has done a great job of getting students involved with the NABiQ sessions.”

All volunteers could network with current professionals while working with students from Seattle Pacific University from NABiQ.

Students helped facilitate brainstorming sessions for various topics, bringing together industry professionals to come up with solutions to pressing problems that impact the media and technology industry. Groups then had a chance to pitch their solution against others for one to come out on top.

They competed in four different categories – connect, capitalize, create, and intelligent content – each bringing their own problem for teams to pitch solutions.

Even though the conference consumed most of their time, they could sightsee in Las Vegas.
