As the Spring 2023 semester wraps up, graduation is on everyone’s mind. Here is a list of reminders for the university’s graduating seniors!

Senior Day

The  University Advancement and Alumni Affairs office will host Senior Day on Friday, May 5, between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on the left lawn of Flowerhill. Seniors can donate $5 for a  Chick-fil-A lunch and an alumni t-shirt! Seniors will also receive a goody bag from the UM National Alumni Association. All collected proceeds from donations will benefit scholarships at UM. To register for Senior Day visit the website

Rehearsal

Graduation rehearsal will take place on Friday, May 5th, at 2:00 p.m., on the Lawn at Flowerhill. The rehearsal is not mandatory, but the Commencement Committee highly encourages you to participate so that you will feel more at ease on Saturday. The rehearsal should last around an hour.

Commencement

Spring Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 6th, at 9:00 a.m. on the Lawn at Flowerhill.

Seniors are required to report to main quad no later than 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, wearing their academic regalia. They will begin your march to Flowerhill Lawn at 8:50 a.m. The ceremony should last approximately two hours. When it is time for recess, the Montevallo Masters will lead you from the lawn.

If the weather forecast indicates a high risk of storms or severe weather, we will move the ceremony to the McChesney Student Activity Center. In the event of light rain on the day of commencement, the ceremony will continue as planned on the lawn — bring an umbrella. Continue to monitor the website and UM social media for any weather updates affecting the ceremony.

If the ceremony is moved to the student activity center, we will issue tickets via University Tickets and provide information on how to access them. Due to space limitations, we will be able to offer between five and seven tickets for each graduate.

The University of Montevallo will livestream the ceremony and it will be available on UM’s Montevallo for You channel, youtube.com/montevalloforyou.

Graduating with Honors (Undergraduate Students only)

Seniors walking with honors, i.e., 3.50 or higher overall UM GPA, may purchase a gold honor cord to wear at graduation from the Campus Bookstore on May 4-6.  A UM identification card or driver’s license must be presented at the time of purchase. Questions concerning other cords, sashes, or medallions, should be directed to the faculty advisor or student president of your particular society or organization.

Senior Survey

Graduating seniors are enrolled in a new canvas course called, “Leaving the Nest.”  The course includes the Graduate Senior Survey, Next Destination Survey, links to Career Development Center and standardized testing websites for graduate school.  Be sure to complete the surveys.  If you have any questions, contact Hilary Dutton at 205-665-6302 or hdutton1@montevallo.edu
