Peyton Harris and Dalton Head, representing the top-ranked Montevallo team, emerged victorious in the 2023 MLF (Major League Fishing) national championship, marking the first time Montevallo has claimed the title. This was a momentous occasion for the duo, who expressed their elation at being crowned national champions. According to Head, it was a lifelong dream fulfilled. The team was awarded a $10,000 prize, a new boat, and a trophy as part of their well-deserved victory.

Peyton and Dalton began their practice on The Kissimmee Chain in Florida with optimism, given their prior experience. Following their first day of preparation for the event, Harris shared that “We had 33 pounds, which helped lift our morale for the week.” Harris and Head swiftly identified their strategy and improved upon it as the circumstances evolved. On the initial day, they weighed 20.11, placing them in the 17th, despite the shorter second day caused by a fog delay. Despite the setback, they still managed to weigh 18.1 and maintain their position in the top 20. They secured the win on the last day by bringing in 27.11 to the scales.

Peyton and Dalton earned their spot in this tournament at Pickwick in the fall during the MLF open. It was their final opportunity to qualify, and Head expressed that it felt like fate when they succeeded. Additionally, they secured a place in the Toyota series championship after winning at the natty. Here, Head and Harris will compete for a chance to qualify for MLF Red Crest and compete against professional anglers. Winning this tournament has given Harris and Head a major confidence boost and has put them on the radar for future competitions.
