MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Everyone has their story on how they developed in their personal or professional life and Amber provided information that is interesting to the outside perspective.
About Amber
Amber comes from Louisville, Kentucky and never knew of the University of Montevallo as she was looking for in-state schools at the time. She came to know the university through scholarships that they hold for athletics and said that lacrosse drew her eye to come and play for the school.
Amber’s interest in lacrosse
Amber didn’t grow up on lacrosse, have a dream of playing lacrosse or even have it cross her mind as something she would like to play. She played basketball when growing up but wanted to quit, but her dad wouldn’t let her and she needed a sport for the next spring coming up. After needing a new sport, Amber would go on to choose lacrosse and started playing in high school as a freshman around 13 or 14 years old. She talked about what position she started playing and if she was still in that same position. Amber started in lacrosse as a defensive player before switching to midfield then attack and can play many positions of the sport.
Coaches and team mentality
Amber has been on many teams in her life from basketball to lacrosse, but she says the UM lacrosse team has made her grow. She says that having a team mentality made her more of a leader in life and gave her versatility in leadership. The main thing she said happened was the positive influence of her head coach here of the UM lacrosse team, Adrianna Pionteck.
“Coach Adrianna Pionteck helped me grow out of my shell and become more of a leader on the field or in my classes

Managing class work and athletics
Classes in college can be relatively busy from what most students would say and managing that work is done in different ways. Amber must manage being a full-time student and being a part of the UM lacrosse team.
Her advice for aspiring future students who are planning to be involved in athletics is:
- Get a planner and split up class work from athletics (Helps with stress and avoiding work overload)
- Balancing personal life with college life (Good sleep, rewards for achievements and giving your brain time to breathe)
- Have a plan before you get to college on how you will manage your time (This helps if you plan to get a job, be involved on campus or any other off-campus activities)
Amber’s lacrosse journey
Amber says she has grown over the years into a leader in and out of the classroom and is so thankful for the faculty and staff here at UM. And she’s thankful for her unexpected journeys to UM and lacrosse. She hopes her story shows people to keep pushing for whatever their future goal is or may hold. Amber wants people to keep believing in the process to get where they can succeed in their life.
