If you have ever played in the game of College Night, you know that a victory is no easy task. Dedication and teamwork from the cast, cabinet and leaders is a huge factor in pulling it off.
In an in studio interview with Vallo Vision News, Gold Side co-leader, Anna Brasfield said “The hard work of everyone paid off. It was very surprising and good to feel.”
The process for College Night begins each spring. It begins with electing 2 leaders for each side and over the summer the leaders choose their cabinet members. Once students return to school in the fall, both sides begin recruiting new students, picking scripts and cast and forming athletic teams.
The key to a successful side is working well with you co-leader. Brasfield’s co-leader was Abi Dewilde. The two worked together closely to ensure a successful season with their cabinet members.
Despite this being near a year long process, the real hustle begins each January. Students spend hours building and designing a set, rehearsing the show and cheer routines and practicing with their athletic teams. All of this is supervised and ran by the leaders.

“You have to work hard at each and every point of it to get the win, so I think everyone did that,” said Brasfield.
Balancing classes and all of the responsibilities that come with being leader is one more major aspect that goes into securing a College Night victory.
“It’s about managing your time well and the support from others,” said Brasfield.
Brasfield credits her success in balancing all her responsibilities to the academic resources at UM, support from her professors and Marion Brown, the Director for University Events & Central Calendar Office.
With everything that comes with being leader, it’s important to take away as much as you can from the opportunity and savor the experience.
Take in the moments because it’s all over in a flash. It’s incredibly special.
