University of Montevallo’s Fishing team and local community members have come together in support of one of their own. Sophomore marketing major, Hunter Bright, suffered a severe head injury as the result of an ATV accident on Easter Sunday, March 31st.

Bright was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital where he was treated until being transferred to UAB Hospital. He is now receiving care at Spain Rehabilitation Center.

Bright’s mother has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to alleviate the cost of his medical expenses. If interested in donating, visit GoFundMe.com.

“We’ve already had so many people praying for him from all over the country, and we know our boy is loved immensely. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” said Bright’s mother, Cindy Bright on the GoFundMe page.

Bright is from Helena Ala., and is a member of The President’s Outdoor Scholar Program as an angler for the Bass Fishing team. His friends and teammates gathered at his bedside to show their support.

“We are all really happy to see Hunter doing better. It has been a scary week but I am very grateful that he is on his road to recovery,” said Bright’s roommate and UM angler, River Eubanks.

Doctors say he is making improvements but has a long road to a full recovery. The rehabilitation process is said to take anywhere from 12 to 18 months.

“We know Hunter will pour everything into his recovery when his brain heals, and all of us [his family] have faith that God will guide him and help heal him through this difficult journey,” said Cindy Bright.

As his teammates continue their tournament season, they are eager for his return back home to the team.

“I look forward to seeing Hunter overcome the recovery process and come back home,” said Eubanks.
