The Zeta Phi Beta Sorotity made its return to the University of Montevalllo’s campus this past Friday. The chapter hasn’t had a line cross at the university since pre-covid.

The probate featured fellow NHPC members in attendance such as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, NuTorious Nu Tau, Xi Upsilon Chapter of KAY Fraternity, Sigma Gamma Rho, Omega Psi PSi and grad. chapter members of Zeta Phi Beta.

The ceremony introduced a total of five new members:

  • Senior: Alexis “SophiZticated” McAdory
  • Sophmore: Kennedy “ReZilience” Johnson
  • Senior: Rachel “TenaciouZ” Smith
  • Sophomore: Quala “InquiZitive” Williams
  • Junior: Audriana “ConsciouZ” Cion

The probate included memorization of founders/principles of the organization, singing, dance numbers and much more. Going into this process can be overwhelming, but with the support around her, Rachel Smith was able to prevail.

“It was more of a mind over matter thing for me because I have a tendency of psyching myself out but with the help of my coordinator, the graduation chapter, and especially my line sisters that was the support I needed to make sure I needed to know and that way I was able to do what I needed to do,” said Smith.

Its been five years since the last line cross, even before the show started Smith knew they were making history.

“Seeing it on paper, seeing my name printed on there being the first chapter that’s been reactivated since 2019…I started crying, I was like y’all were making history,” said Smith.
