Housing and Residence Life at the University of Montevallo hosted its annual Luau on April 20. The event took place on Main Quad, and it lasted from 4:30- 7 p.m.

Activities included a photobooth hosted by Elevated Entertainment, lawn games, an inflatable obstacle course and more. The event was catered by the university’s Anna Irvin Dining Hall. Students had the option of a hot dog, hamburger or veggie burger. Potato chips and pasta salad were also offered.
Students also enjoyed free popcorn, cotton candy and Kona Ice.
The luau is typically one of HRL’s biggest, most popular events each year. This was residence assistant Blaine Richardson’s second time working at the luau.
“We’ve never had a year where it’s been, like, bad turnout; we’ve never had a year that, like, anything negative has happened,” Richardson said. “All the people I talk to really enjoy it; all the people that participated in the games seem like they’re having fun, so, I would say it’s been pretty positive overall.”
The event also provided students with a convenient, accessible way to de-stress before finals.
“With how the luau is usually near the end of the year, with finals coming up and whatnot, it’s hard to find time to make time for your friends,” Richardson explained. “And, so, this is a good opportunity to get everyone together and say, ‘Hey, let’s go spend an hour at the luau, get some food, get some sweets, and play some games, you know?’”
