The 7th Annual Freddie Awards, a celebration of athletic achievement at the University of Montevallo, took place Friday evening in Palmer Auditorium. Athletes, coaches and attendees arrived in their finest attire for the occasion, setting a tone of elegance for the evening.

The awards ceremony honored outstanding accomplishments across various categories, including Newcomer of the Year, Acedemic Achievements, Iron Falcon, and Best Play, among others.

Academic Award winners; Championship scholars and all-academic team

One of the evening’s highlights was hearing from Gabe Hixenbaugh. Winning three Freddies, the wrestling conference champion shared his thoughts on his exceptional performance at Montevallo. “I hope that I set a great example for my team and the wrestling program.” said Hixenbaugh. “Montevallo has been a fantastic environment for me to grow and compete, and I’m grateful for the support of my teammates and coaches.”

Beth Balent, the Treasurer and Secretary of the Student Activity Center (SAC), emphasized the significance of the Freddie Awards within the UM athletic community. ” All of the athletes try so hard every year and our community is growing it means a lot for students athletes to get recognized”. Balent is on the UM swim teams and was awarded last year “The awards serve as a reminder of the hard work and dedication that each athlete puts into their sport.”

The Freddie Awards serve as a testament to the commitment and passion of the UM athletic community. As the evening came to a close, it was evident that the spirit of excellence and camaraderie would continue to thrive, inspiring future generations of athletes and leaders.
