MONTEVALLO, Ala- The closure of Slice, a popular restaurant amongst UM students, has left a lot of the community surprised by the decision to shut their doors.

The restaurant announced the closure via their Facebook page on Feb. 27, citing a decision not to renew their lease.

The decision was not only surprising to the community, but also to the employees who worked there.

Nathan Wilson, a former Slice employee, received the news of the closure only two days before the announcement was made to the Montevallo community.

” I was just like that’s kind of crazy,” Wilson said, “and then two days later they finally announced it to the public that was on short notice.”

While the news was out of left field, Wilson noticed the signs that they were close to shutting the location down indefinitely.

“Once we closed the main dining room that was outside it was kind of like a oh, we’re about to close down,” says Wilson.

The closure of Slice leaves the students at the University of Montevallo with one less restaurant to be able to spend their Flex Points at.

While their Montevallo location is no more, Slice Pizza and Brew is still available in four other locations in the surrounding Birmingham area.
