MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The University of Montevallo held its 27th annual Undergraduate Research Day in Harman Hall on Wednesday, March 12.
Students who participated in Undergraduate Research Day — also knowns as UR Day — researched a variety of topics related to their fields of study.
The research is then conducted with the help of a professor, who serves as the mentor and advisor for the undergraduate researcher.
During UR Day, students presented their findings either in oral presentations or with posters.
Among this year’s research projects was one titled “Comparing Post Swim VO2 Max Estimates to Traditional Treadmill Protocol in Collegiate Swimmers,” which was created by undergraduate researcher Beth Balent.
Balent believes it is important for students to gain this type of experience through the research.
“I think undergraduate research is very important because it gives undergrads a way to kind of branch out and put something that they want to test out there, ” she said.
According to the University of Montevallo’s website, the mission of the Undergraduate Research Program is to provide opportunities for undergraduate students to foster their academic knowledge and understanding through collaborative research efforts, scholarly activity, and creative endeavor.
