MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo Valorant team has made program history with its first-ever Peach Belt Championship.
Montevallo Esports has had many teams head to playoffs throughout the years but was never able to bring home the win. Valorant is the newest team added out of the five games with it having its first ever season just last year.
Valorant is a five-versus-five team-based shooter game, and the first team to win 13 rounds wins the game. Alyssa Ayala, captain of the Valorant team, was happy to to bring home the win and see all the hard work pay off.
“It feels amazing to know that all of the work we put into getting better throughout the season really played off,” Ayala said.

UM’s esports team recently took a big hit with the resignation their head coach, Ethan Baggett, just two weeks before playoffs. But that didn’t stop the team from bringing home its first playoff championship.
Dr. Brendan Beal is serving as the team’s interim coach until a permanent replacement can be hired.
