MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed UM alum Alana Hataway Barranco ’06, M.Ed. ’10 to serve on the University of Montevallo Board of Trustees.
Barranco’s term started Sept. 17 and will end Jan. 19, 2032. She replaces Hon. Trustee Todd Strange.
The newest member of the Board of Trustees has two degrees from UM. Barranco earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration and management in 2006 and received a master’s degree in clinical mental health in 2010.
“The University was instrumental in shaping my personal and professional development, so serving as a Trustee is a meaningful way to contribute to an institution that has played a pivotal role in my life,” Barranco said.
Barranco has spent the past eight years as a high school and college counselor at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, where she guides students and families through college admission, career exploration and academic planning.
She began her professional career as coordinator of student life programs at UM in 2006, consulting and advising the University’s Student Government Association, Greek Life, intramural sports and clubs and organizations.
