MONTEVALLO, Ala. — When creating content on social media, Amy Barnett says she has only one goal in mind: to inspire women of all ages to feel comfortable in their own skin.

Barnett, who has been making fashion content for roughly 5 years now, has consistently used her TikTok following to reinforce a community of support for women navigating the journey toward self-love and inner confidence.

This all began in 2021, when Barnett says she found a passion for posting her “outfit of the days” to her friends on Instagram.

“I want to be able to express myself openly and with enthusiasm for life, and I have found a community of women that are the same way. We just want to find the person that we once were.”

However, as time passed, Barnett found herself being pulled closer and closer to the TikTok platform as she navigated her own journey of finding confidence in her style.

“I got started on TikTok just by fluke…” she said. “I found a nice little network of women that wanted to give praise and celebration for people that have lost weight or that are trying to rediscover themselves.”

Throughout her time on TikTok, Barnett expressed that the community she found there only further embraced her ideas and supported her vibrant approach to self-discovery.

And it was that very community that inspired her to keep posting.

“I want to be able to express myself openly and with enthusiasm for life,” Barnett said. “And I have found a community of women that are the same way. We just want to find the person that we once were.”

However, in 2024, Barnett faced the hardest pivot in her online career as her TikTok account was banned without any prior warning.

She says the ban came as a “major” shock because she had never received any form of notification or alert for having violated the app’s guidelines.

Before losing her account, Barnett had garnered a following of almost 1,500 users that regularly tuned in to watch her build an outfit or try a viral fashion challenge.

But, following the ban, she says what upset her most was that she felt she had lost a community that consistently found comfort in one another. Thus, she started over.

Since restarting her account, she has grown to a following of over 1,800 users, something she says was not as easy to build to the second time around.

“Regrowing this account, now that it’s been sold, it actually seems harder to get true engagement,” she said. “TikTok really wants you to promote their shop items or to pay to boost your account, and to me, that’s just not organic.”

Still, Barnett hopes that, by posting her journey authentically, she can continue to help women understand that it’s never too late to find themselves or rediscover what makes them happy.

In fact, she says that losing her account inspired her to follow more of her own passions, as she has since branched out into more content related to cooking and interior decorating.

“I finally discovered my personal style…” she said. “So, I’m starting to feel comfortable sharing those visions I have for my home and my life.”

As she continues forward, Barnett says that she hopes to finally achieve a goal she’s wished to pursue for many years now: creating her own online boutique for custom jewelry pieces.

Amelia Rose Boutique will launch its official TikTok account in April, and with it, Barnett hopes to continue chasing her dreams while showing other women that it will always be possible for them to as well.
